Tales Involving Lesbians & Bisexual Women

On Monday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m., the Pittsburgh International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival screens a terrific collection of short movies geared for lesbians and bisexual women at the SouthSide Works Cinema.

Under the title "Her Shorts," these little films include:

"Fluid" (USA; 2011; 17 Minutes). Playing on the "Ice Teasers" flag football team means a young woman named Angie must adhere to a strictly-enforced "tea only" drinking policy --- but she has a secret.

"Flyers" (USA; 2011; 3 Minutes). Sometimes you just want a sign that your life is heading in the right direction. But what happens when everyone else sees the sign before you do?

"Lesbian Cliché Song" (USA; 2011; 5 Minutes). This short film is a music video that takes every sapphic stereotype and mixes it in a hilarious stew-pot of song.

"Loop Planes" (USA; 2010; 12 Minutes). Thirteen-year-old Nick can be himself working with his dad at the amusement park, but he goes on the ride of his life when both his mother and a pretty pink haired girl show up.

"Lust Life" (USA; 2010; 9 Minutes). Paris is the world's most passionate city, but a woman who has lost her lust for life is caught between possibility and reality.

"Miserable Animals" (USA; 2011; 6 Minutes). Expertly mixing comedy and drama, this film is about a lesbian couple having an argument about who is gayer.

"Ms. Thing" (Canada; 2010; 7 Minutes). Jill, an emotionally volatile urban lesbian who's looking for love in all the wrong places finds it in an unusual package.

"Nice Shirt" (USA; 2011; 5 Minutes). A woman spars with her ex-girlfriend when she shows up to a friendly lunch wearing a printed t-shirt that reads "taken!"

"No Direction" (USA; 2011; 13 Minutes). Jamie finds that life in the big world is tough when you're a Philosophy major fresh from college graduation --- but it gets even more challenging when she falls in love with the GPS system in her parents' car.

"Vigilant! Healthy! Wholesome!" (Australia; 2009; 14 Minutes). This very funny, insightful short is the fantasy tale involving a plague of homosexuality that is sweeping the nation.

The Pittsburgh Lesbian & Gay Film Society is an all-volunteer organization with an active board of directors and a few small but active committees. Our mission is to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender culture and foster appreciation and visibility through film media. Founded in 1985, the Film Society produces one of the world's oldest LGBT film festivals every October. For more information, visit www.plgfs.org
