   Trailer

Adapted from Sarah Waters' Man Booker Prize-winning novel, this film is an achingly beautiful cyclone of missed connections and fragmented pasts.

The story is about interesting people living on society's fringe in post-World War II London who orbit around a woman named Viv Pearce. Among these people is her brother, a young man struggling with his own sexuality after spending the war in a jail cell lusting after his straight roommate. They also include Kay Langrish, a wealthy, reclusive lesbian who once had an affair with Viv's co-worker, Helen who is currently living with a famous author named Julia. Finally there is Viv, who spends her time wandering London's war-torn streets, pulled back to her time as a heroic ambulance driver during the Blitz.

Directed by Richard Laxton, who helmed the critically acclaimed 2009 film "An Englishman in New York," this is an engrossing tale of people with quiet grace seeking peace and purpose in their lives.
