Artfully told, Damion Dietz’s first drama is the erotic story of a married heterosexual couple who each have outside gay relationships. Crisply told and packing an emotional punch, Damion Dietz’s latest film tells the story of a couple in an unhappy marriage of convenience. Joe was a pro-baseball player with a hankering for men, but needed a beard. His lesbian wife, Mary, needed a husband to access a trust fund -- together they had a match made in heaven. With equal time given to both the male/male and female/female relationships, Love Life is a most unusual and captivating film. Everything is hunky-dory with their arrangement. Joe hooks up with a man in a car, apparently one in a long run of casual encounters. The less complicated the sex, the happier Joe is, always needing to hide in his closet. Mary gets a visit from her college roommate who turns out to also be a former lover. Joe and Mary’s relationship only becomes compromised when Joe and his landscaper land in bed together while Mary ends up with her college girlfriend.
