Kate Clinton: 25th Anniversary Tour

2007
66 minutes
Language: English
Director: Andrea Meyerson

Following the comic legend on her "It's Come to This" 25th Anniversary Tour, director Andrea Meyerson's portrait of Kate Clinton is much more than a concert film.

Performing nationally since 1981 "through economic booms and busts, Disneyfication and Walmartization, gay movements and gay markets, lesbian chic and queer eyes, and ten presidential inaugurals," Kate Clinton is not just an institution; she's a comic eye in the storm of U.S. politics. Her sharp, informed humor is a voice that makes us laugh, think and then laugh some more. Andrea Meyerson (creator of the Laughing Matters series of films, the latest of which is in this year's festival) captures the essential Kate Clinton on stage doing what she does best -- making us laugh. Clinton riffs on menstruation, gay cruises, the passing of the Pope and dressing smartly for all those secret cameras everywhere. Along the way, Meyerson captures everything from backstage banter with Clinton's partner of 18 years, Urvashi Vaid, to the girls' attendance at Dinah Shore Weekend. Clinton believes that humor will get us "through peacetime, wartime and scoundrel time." Let's hope so! -- Scott Cranin
