Adapted from one of Claudia Allen's award-winning plays, this multi-layered and poignant 2009 American film tells the story of a decades-long love affair between two very different women.

Set in a present day nursing home, Hannah (Sharon Gless) an adventurous, butch lesbian with gruff charm --- and forbidden from seeing her former lover Rachel (Maureen Gallagher), because she is not "family." Through a series of flashbacks, Hannah reflects on passionate beginnings of their relationship, which was both tumultuous and enduring. The two grew up as little girls in the same small Midwest town, where traditional gender expectations eventually challenged their deep love for one another and they each take different roads in life: Hannah becomes an adventurous, unapologetic lesbian and Rachel a strong but quiet homemaker.
